Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 August 2026. This policy explains how whats-on.co.nz handles personal information. Read it alongside our Terms of Use.
1. Who holds your information
whats-on.co.nz is operated by The Community Limited (“we”, “us”, “The Community”). Personal information collected through this website and related email support is managed by The Community Limited. Contact details are on our Contact page.
2. What this site does
Whats-On is an event discovery directory. You cannot create or manage event listings directly on whats-on.co.nz. Events shown here are submitted and managed through thecommunity.co.nz (and related Community platforms), then displayed or promoted on Whats-On so audiences can discover what is on across New Zealand.
3. What we collect
- Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, and similar information when you visit the site, including via analytics cookies where used.
- Communications: messages you send us by email or through contact forms.
- Listing-related data: when someone lists an event via thecommunity.co.nz for display on Whats-On, that event and related organiser information is processed by The Community Limited and may appear on this site. Account and listing data for those submissions is primarily collected on thecommunity.co.nz under its privacy notice as well.
4. Why we use it
We process personal information to:
- Operate and improve the Whats-On directory and related discovery features.
- Display and promote events and community activities listed via The Community Limited’s platforms.
- Respond to enquiries and meet legal obligations.
- Protect the service against fraud or abuse.
5. Cross-site data & our network
The Community Limited operates a network of related New Zealand platforms, including whats-on.co.nz, thecommunity.co.nz, artists.org.nz, and nzclubs.co.nz, and may operate other partner or regional sites under the same organisation. User data across this network is managed by The Community Limited.
We cross-promote content between these platforms. Events and related listing details submitted via thecommunity.co.nz may be synced, displayed, or promoted on whats-on.co.nz and other sites in the network so audiences can discover them more widely. Content originating elsewhere in the network may likewise appear here where relevant.
Where we share data across the network, we do so only for operating and promoting those services: for example publishing public listing details, keeping shared calendars and directories consistent, and administering the platforms. We do not sell your personal information. Each site may have its own privacy notice; this policy covers personal information collected or processed in connection with whats-on.co.nz, including sharing described here.
6. Sharing with others
Besides sharing within The Community Limited’s network as described above, we use service providers (such as hosting, email, and analytics) who process data on our instructions. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security. We do not sell your personal information.
7. Retention
We keep enquiry and related records for a reasonable period for support, disputes, and legal compliance. Technical logs may be retained for a shorter rolling period. Listing data retained in connection with thecommunity.co.nz follows the retention practices for those services.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures appropriate to the service. No online transmission is perfectly secure.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights. For account or listing data submitted via thecommunity.co.nz, you may also need to manage that information through your Community account or by contacting us. You may complain to your local privacy regulator.
